Masterclass: How a Dysbiotic Microbiome Becomes Toxic to the Brain and the Emerging Role of Psychobiotics

September 15, 2021 | Recording Available

The gut-brain axis, a bidirectional communication between gut microbiota and the central nervous system (CNS), plays a role in cognitive function, digestion, and mood. Research shows that a diverse and balanced microbiome can help maintain the gut-brain axis in many ways. But can a dysfunctional gut actually lead to a toxic brain? Join this masterclass with microbiologist Kiran Krishnan to learn more about how psychobiotics can exert positive psychological effects on emotional and cognitive processes, systemic effects on stress responses and modulation of the HPA axis, and neural effects influencing neurotransmitters. Take a deep dive with Kiran to understand the body’s natural stress response and the connection to gut-brain connection and the psychobiome.

Mini-Microbiome Keynotes: Earth and the Gut Microbiome

April 22, 2021 | Recording Available

The first Mini-Microbiome Keynote took place on April 22nd – Earth Day! Why Earth Day, you ask? As a human, we are a part of the Earth. But, the Earth is also a part of us. This symbiotic relationship is also a reflection of our microbiome. The microbiome lives in and on our bodies. It bridges the relationship between us and Mother Nature and reflects the strength of such relationship. Our first Mini-Keynote will focus on just that – the relationship between the Earth and the gut microbiome.
